Homage to the Corresponding Astronomers of the Royal Observatory of Belgium on September 19, 2016
The Royal Observatory of Belgium (ROB) wishes to pay homage to some of its highly estimated external collaborators. Hence the ROB proposes to award them the title of “Corrresponding Astronomer”. In the past, this honor was already given to Dr R.J. Anderle, Prof. C. De Jager, Sir H. Jeffreys, Prof. J. Kovalevsky, Prof. P. Ledoux, Prof. H. Moritz and in 2008 to Dr P.M. Mathews, Dr N. Grevesse and Ir. S. Cortesi.
These are scientists with international reputation who, during a big part of their career, have sustained collaboration with the ROB. The four new Corresponding Astronomers of the Observatory are:
- Prof. Em. Nicole Capitaine, astronomer at the Observatory of Paris, corresponding member of the Académie des Sciences at Paris, Officer of the Légion d’Honneur, Member du Bureau des Longitudes,
- Prof. Dr. Klaus G. Hinzen, professor of seismology at the University of Cologne, section Earthquake Geology, Seismological Station Bensberg,
- Prof. Dr. Jean Lilensten, CNRS Research Director at the Institut de Planétologie et d’Astrophysique de Grenoble (IPAG) of the University of Grenoble.
- Ir. Christian Monstein, engineer in radio communication in the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich (ETH Zürich).
On Monday 19 September 2016 at 7pm, the Corresponding Astronomer will receive homage at the Royal Observatory of Belgium at Uccle. After the ceremony, a reception will be given at the ROB Meridian Room.
